Self Acceptance!!

Hello, it's been a long time since I posted on here, I have been so busy with school but I'm back (hopefully). Recently, I was having a conversation with a friend about the topic of self-acceptance and I realised that in 2015 there are people that still have an issue with accepting themselves for who they are and that saddening.

What is self-acceptance??
To me, self-acceptance is not just about loving yourself, it means accepting your flaws and being contented with who you are. I personally don't believe in peer pressure; maybe it because I have never been a victim it just has to do with intention (I guess). Every human deserves the right to be happy and doing something because it's an ongoing trend is not going to lead to happiness. In life, it's sometimes ok to be selfish when it comes to loving yourself and putting yourself first. It is a waste of time to want to be someone else. Loving yourself keeps you sane and happy.

Going on social media and talking to different individuals, it came to my attention that for some people, it is easier to try and jump on a bandwagon rather than set out to distinguish yourself from the crowd, which kind of breaks my heart. It's hard for me to tell how they feel because I never had to struggle with self-acceptance. I can't speak for everyone, but with the knowledge I have acquired over the years, I can try to help you learn how to accept yourself for who you are and be happy.

Opinions don't count
Most people have a problem of relying heavily on what others think and that is one of the biggest issues that will inevitably lead to doubting one's self. If you believe in yourself and trust your abilities, you don't need validation from anyone. I realise that this is easier said than done but it takes practice. Even if the world is against you and your dreams or what you believe in, it doesn't matter because it's your dream and you have a right to chase it. Opinions can only dissuade you from living your reality. They don't matter till you listen to them. "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."

Self Reliance
Being independent is a very attractive trait. Most times, it's a lot easier to accomplish things that we already know are going to go well but sometimes taking a risk might be they trigger for you to realise you are cable of doing anything you set your mind to. At a point in your life, you need to realise that you have to start taking responsibility for you by believing in you and your abilities and giving yourself credit for your achievements. "It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion;it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude."

Be You
Knowing yourself is very important in life and to achieve that you have to stop hiding behind a personality for the sake of the world. A lot of people put on façades because they are afraid that the world won't accept them but who cares? If you are fine with your real self, then show it to the world. If they don't like you that way then you don't need them."Be who you are and say what yo feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

In the words of my favourite rapper, J Cole "We ain't picture perfect but we worth the picture still" If someone can't accept you for you and your multiple flaws then you do not need them in your life. If you don't accept yourself and don't treat yourself right, the world will use that as an opportunity to mistreat you and you'd only have yourself to blame. You are responsible for your life and your happiness (try not to live with regrets), so make if your goal today to find yourself and accept who you are and all your flaws!!!"Love yourself first and everything else fall into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world."
